Four Heart Pop-Up Card

Materials Needed

3 A-4 cards, one white and two in complementary colors
a bone folder
an edge punch (optional)
acrylic inks
glue
heart stamps
stamp pads in different colors
embellishments (stick-on jewels, thread, yarn, glitter)

card 1

 1. Fold the outer edge of one side of a card toward the center fold.

 card 2

2. Crease with the bone folder

 card 3

3. Repeat with the other side. You will end up with an accordion structure, like this.

 card 4

4. Center your heart stamp over the right -most crease about one inch from the top border.

 card 5

5. Add another heart stamp below the first one, using a different color and a different heart stamp.

 card 6

6. Repeat with the left-most crease. With a craft knife, cut around one half of each stamped heart, so that it folds out.

 card 7

7. Using acrylic inks, paint the white card a color that compliments the colors of the hearts.

card 9

8. Using an edge punch, cut a border for your card. Alternatively, trim 1/4 inch from each edge of the card.

card 8

9. Embellish card. I used the bits left over from the edge punch, pasting them onto the surface of the card.

 card 10

10. Take another card and create an accordion structure, as you did in Steps 1-3.  Cut this accordion in half, cutting down the center fold.

 card 11

11. Fit one side of the pop-up hearts card over one of the accordion halves, making sure that the edge of the accordion fold meets the back of the right fold on the pop-up heart card. Glue. Repeat on the other side.  Make a decorative border for the new product if you wish.

 card 12

12. Place the entire structure into a third card, leaving a margin between the edge of the base card and the edge of the pop-up structure. Before gluing the pop-up structure to the base, make certain that you have left enough of a margin so that the pop-up structured hides inside the base card when it is folded closed. If you don’t leave enough room, the pop-up will be visible when the card is folded.

 card 13

Two versions of the finished card.
